Some people may enjoy math because it is useful. But it is far more likely that its appeal for us lies in the conceptual satisfaction that we derive from it. This is particularly true if we actually get to know how children learn math. So teachers must constantly be aware that, although the justification for spending so much school time on mathematics is that it is useful. But the appeal for children is based on their conceptual response, in much the same way as the appeal of art.
To enable children to form concepts, teachers must provide them with suitable experiences to foster their impulse and perform accordingly. They must also provide children with suitable language to describe the common properties that they perceive. It’s surprisingly amazing to know how children learn math and grab it easily. Start with initial matching activities that are encouraged in school. It should be concerned with concepts that children have already formed, or are likely to be able to form with activities.
Children need to be positively engaged and absorbed in activities they are performing. The most productive learning takes place when children are totally involved in their actions and oblivious to outside distractions. This makes sense to the question how children learn math as with this technique teacher can actually read their minds and interact with it. Give children a box of rods and they will immediately begin to play unaware of exploring a precise mathematical tool. This would allow them to understand the core concepts of this shape and surely they will be able to remember it.
