Money is an important resource that everyone in this world uses and needs for them to survive in their daily lives. Without money, there are a lot of things that you might not be able to get or achieve. You need money to buy food, pay for electricity bills, water bills, and any other bills. There are times when you will not be able to get education if you don’t have money. Money is needed everywhere, every time, and everyone wants it. Sometimes, the way a person handles their money can either result into a failure or a success. Learning how money works and how they are used is a great way to prevent someone from getting tricked into paying more than they should have and to be able to handle their money well. In 2nd grade, children are taught how to identify money, count money, add and subtract their money, and even how to use it. There are various ways in how money is taught to these learners. The use of worksheets is one of the most popular materials that are used not just for teaching children about money, but in any other lesson possible as well. Children in this age and grade level, are most likely to have learned how to count, add, and subtract numbers already and these skills are crucial in learning about money. Teaching about money needs to be done slowly and gradually, start with familiarizing the learners with how money looks like. Giving them a worksheet with pictures could help them a lot to recognize money easily. After recognizing how money looks like, it’s time for the learners to learn how to count them depending on its value. Worksheets that show addition and different amount of money is the best material to show the learners how to count and add different types of coins and money to get the desired amount. Once the learners know how to recognize, count, and add money, it’s time for them to learn how to use money and how to subtract expenses from their total money. The best way to do this is to have worksheets that contain mathematical word problems. One example of a word problem is to ask the learner to determine how much would be left from their 100 coins if they have to buy 5 bananas for the price of 25 coins. This way, they will have an idea of how buying and using their money in real life would be like. There are other ways on how to teach the value, use, and importance of money to children, but teaching them first about the basic ways of counting, adding, and subtracting money can be done with printable worksheets. Worksheets with the representation of money and coins would be more effective for this lesson to be taught well. Remember that 2nd-grade students are children and might take time to understand the system in which money is involved. But with their worksheets, they can always have it around them to review and have a reference for their learning progress in money.
