Understanding fractions is a skill that is handy and is applied in several scenarios in other math topics. Fractions are actually a representation of the parts of a whole. For example if you have a loaf of bread, a fraction of it is the small pieces into which that whole loaf was broken up into. For example, if the loaf of bread was broken up into nine equal pieces, it means one of those pieces if one ninth of the whole loaf.
