Roman to Arabic numerals snakes and ladders game
Roman numerals are the equivalent of the standard numerical system, that most people use, into Roman numerical system. Like any other numbers, Roman numerals also have their own characteristics. They are determined with letters and not the typical numbers that we know and encounter on a daily basis. To learn Roman numerals, the first thing that must be known to the learner is that the letters are mostly in capital. The most basic and known Roman numeral is the letter I which is equivalent to 1. Basically, if 1 is I, then 2 is II. The same would go with 3 but number 4 and 5 would be different. The equivalent of 5 in Roman numeral is V and therefore, IV is 4. Wonder why IV is four? It is simply because if you put a number on the left side of a Roman numeral, it would automatically mean that you are subtracting it to the next number. So, if 5 is V and IV is 4, it basically means that I, which is 1, was subtracted from V which is 5, and that is how IV became the value of 4. The next numbers also have the same rules and therefore, applies to numbers and letters with smaller value on the first left of the Roman numeral.
